The Relevance of Gaudí: Visions from Participants in RCR Workshops for the Sagrada Família and Its Surroundings

EXHIBITION · The Relevance of Gaudí: Visions from Participants in RCR Workshops for the Sagrada Família and Its Surroundings

Curator: Jaume Prat Ortells

The Sagrada Família has been the most ambitious project in Barcelona for almost a century and a half. It has now been crowned, reaching its maximum height. The next challenge is to consider its horizontal growth and reflect on a Barcelona built around it, which has evolved throughout this period. The RCR Summer Workshop by RCR arquitectes has spent four years exploring this integration, gaining an in-depth understanding of both Barcelona and the Sagrada Família to rethink their relationship. The exhibition presents three projects that, each reflecting on a specific aspect of Gaudí’s architecture, propose three possible approaches to urban integration.

Let’s Begin to Discover Space

VIRTUAL REALITY EXPERIENCE · Let’s Begin to Discover Space

Curator: Jordi Sellas

A virtual reality exhibition project, “Let’s Begin to Discover Space”, is a proposal co-created by the extended reality content studio Layers of Reality and RCR Arquitectes, placing space at the centre of the equation from both disciplinary and transdisciplinary perspectives. The experience starts from the idea of space as a vital medium: something we inhabit, perceive, and transform, and which shapes the way we relate to our bodies, to others, and to our surroundings.

Through sensory and interactive immersion, the piece invites participants to explore how space—physical, mental, and social—is constructed and how it changes with perception, movement, and presence. “Let’s Begin to Discover Space” also opens up a field of research and experience: a space for experimentation, observation, and reflection on what makes a place a place, its boundaries, and how form emerges.

The proposal incorporates a collective dimension: multiple users can interact in real time within the same virtual environment, sharing a joint exploration in which individual actions influence the collective experience. In this way, the project fosters a dialogue between architecture, technology, and perception, transforming space into a living phenomenon that is continuously created through inhabitation.

Layers of Reality was founded in 2017 as a leading studio specialising in extended reality content production. In 2019, it opened its flagship creation and exhibition centre, IDEAL Barcelona; in March 2022, it inaugurated MAD (Madrid Artes Digitales) at Matadero Madrid; and in March 2024, Bombas Gens Centre d’Arts Digitals in Valencia. Among the most notable productions by Layers of Reality are Klimt, the Immersive Experience (with Exhibition Hub); Frida Kahlo: The Life of a Myth (with Frida Kahlo Corp.); Dalí Cybernetic (with the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation); The Last Days of PompeiiTutankhamun: the Immersive ExperienceThe Legend of the Titanic and Cleopatra (with Madrid Artes Digitales); Sorolla: A New DimensionJules Verne 200Goya Universe; and Leonardo versus Michelangelo, some of which can currently be seen around the world.
